Emmanuelle Vaugier is Painkiller Jane for Sci Fi

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmanuelle Vaugier will play Jane Vasko in the Sci Fi Channel’s two-hour pilot, Painkiller Jane, based on the Event Comics character created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada. The pilot, which Sci Fi hopes to see develop into an ongoing series, is co-produced by NBC Universal TV and MGM TV, and is due to begin filming on January 19th in Vancouver, Canada.

The character, who made her first appearance in 1995’s 22 Brides #1 was a female cop who is gifted with regenerative powers when she was brought back to life after receiving mortal injuries in an explosion. In the television version, Jane is a female Marine officer who gains her powers when she is caught in a biochemical weapon explosion.

In both versions, Jane is able to heal from nearly any injury, but still feels pain. In the comic, she covered herself with bandages, both to conceal her identity as well as to soak up the blood.
