Sees Saw Sequel
Vancouver actor Emmanuelle Vaugier took on a leading role in the sequel to the recent indie hit Saw. The film wrapped production in Toronto recently and is set for release by Lions Gate this fall. Publicist Lesley Diana said Vaugier joins returning actors Shawnee Smith and Tobin Bell in the cast. She said Donnie Walhlberg and Glenn Plummer also star. Meanwhile, Vaugier has also taken on the role of a female superhero for the television adaptation of the comic Painkiller Jane for the Sci Fi Channel. She plays the role of a young marine officer who gains super heroic healing powers when she is accidentally exposed to biochemical weaponry. "She's
a strong female superhero paradigm, not simply someone in spandex fighting
crime," said Sci Fi executive Mark Stern in an interview with Daily
Variety, when the project was initially announced. "It's really
the drama of a normal person who finds themselves with powers that they
don't know what to do with or how to handle." Publicist Lesley
Diana said the character originated in the pages of Joe Quesada and
Jim Palmiotti's Event Comic title on which the show is based. Shaft's
Richard Roundtree and The O.C.'s Tate Donovan also star.
