A Proud Vancouverite Through and Through
Vancouver View, October 2007

Vancouver is known for its beauty, rugged nature, warm climate and so many other things. We are pleased to add to that list, amazing acting talent, and Emmanuelle Vaugier is no exception.

Emmanuelle took a few minutes while filming in L.A., to speak with Vancouver View and share with us what she loves about Vancouver, how her career started and some of her favourite Vancouver hangouts.

Vancouver View Magazine: Where in Vancouver did you grow up?
Emmanuelle Vaugier:
Kerrisdale.

VVM: What is your favourite local hangout?
EV:
For lunch or dinner, I love Don Francesco’s. They have an amazing selection of wine and the food is phenomenal. I also really like the bar upstairs at Joe Forte’s.

VVM: October is our annual Spa issue? Do you have a favourite Vancouver spa?
EV:
Vida Wellness Spa; I always end up there!

VVM: What do you love most about BC ?
EV:
I love that you can do anything here and it’s all within such a short distance. You can ski nearby at a local mountain, or take a quick drive to Whistler – this world class resort only 2 hours from downtown! I also love the weather - granted, the rain can get excessive but at least it’s not extreme here, we never freeze! We have everything; the ocean, mountains. And everything is so green and clean.

VVM: How did you get started in the film industry?
EV
: I acted in school plays throughout elementary and high school. I also took part in theatre. I also went overseas to do some modeling and after that I did some commercials and then I got lucky because my first real break was as a lead in a TV Movie of the Week and that really moved everything forward and opened a lot of doors for me.

VVM: What has been your favourite role so far?
EV:
I have so many favourite roles, all for different reasons. Each of them brings something different to my career. It’s hard to pick just one!

VVM: What have been some of your biggest challenges?
EV:
Being away from friends and family. And, not having control of decisions that impact your life. All you can control is what you bring to the table and how hard you work. You have to be confident and secure in what you bring and after that, it’s out of your hands. All you can do is your best and someone else decides if you are too tall, too short, too thin, too fat; you have no control and that’s probably the most frustrating and challenging thing.

VVM: Which actors have you really enjoyed working with?
EV: I have enjoyed working with so many. Everyone has their own great talent. I really enjoyed working with Michael Caine; he was so charming and just fascinating to watch. The life of an actor can be glamorous and exciting, no doubt, and let us not forget fast-paced! Despite only having a few minutes of free time to chat with VV, a relaxed and very friendly Emmanuelle took the time to share parts of her personal and professional life. Look out Hollywood, here comes another Proud Vancouverite!
